Wedding Planning Tips for a Stress Free 2026 Wedding

*Originally published in 2019, updated for the 2026 wedding season

“It’s all so new to us! Do you have any advice?”

That was the cry for help we heard recently from a bride in the throes of her wedding countdown. Between the endless self-help blogs, Instagram trends, and glossy magazines, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

At Smile Events & Media, we’ve attended hundreds of celebrations. We’ve sat down, listened to our brides and grooms, and chatted with the best in the industry to distill the noise into a few golden wedding planning tips. They aren’t scientific, and some might be a bit contentious, but they are designed to help you enjoy the journey as much as the big day.

1. Manage the Parental Input

Your parents will naturally want to be involved. It’s a huge milestone for them, too! The key is communication. Just like your suppliers, they need to know what you want and how you want it.

There will inevitably be niggles and frustrations (getting the proposal was the easy part!), so treat them with respect. Listen to their “fountain of sense,” but remain firm. It’s your day, your way, just keep the dialogue kind.

2. Create a Dedicated Wedding HQ

Talking of listening, set up a dedicated email account that the inner circle has access to; parents, the best man, maid of honour and bridesmaids. Use this to collate quotes, set tasks, and swap information. A shared Google Workspace or similar with a calendar function is a lifesaver for keeping your wedding timeline on track.

3. Consider a Wedding Website

If you have friends and relatives coming from overseas (common for our destination weddings in France), a personal wedding site is incredibly helpful. You can add maps, travel directions, and hotel suggestions. It’s also a lovely place to share the story of how you met.

4. Know When to Stop Reading

There are thousands of wedding magazines and blogs out there (we love a physical copy from the supermarket for the “feel”). They are great for finding your style, but here is our biggest piece of advice: three months before your wedding, stop reading. By then, your vision should be locked in. Don’t let a last-minute must-have trend derail your peace of mind.

5. Befriend Your Venue & Vendors

You’ve chosen your venue and your wedding planner for a reason. Go and make friends with them! We all work better for friends. At Smile Events, we want the same thing you do: a seamless, spectacular day that your guests will talk about for years.

6. Build Flexibility into Your Timing Plan

Your ceremony time is usually set in stone, but treat everything else as a guide. Official photos take time, speeches often run over, and meals can start late. If you stay relaxed when the timeline shifts, your guests will, too.

7. Think Outside the Gift Box

Online wedding gift lists are brilliant to avoid the multiple toasters scenario. We love lists that allow guests to club together for experiences. We were recently hire at a wedding where the bridesmaids clubbed together to gift our luxury photo booth experience for the night as a surprise, it was the hit of the evening! Another time guests were asked to provide donations to the honeymoon in return for a photo keyring, the couple raised a rather large amount but the end of the evening thanks to the generosity of their friends and family.

The Most Important Rule

Finally, make it a rule to have some dates together where wedding talk is strictly forbidden. The wedding is just one day; your marriage is forever.

How far in advance should we book a photo booth for a 2026/2027 wedding?

For peak season (May to September and December), we recommend booking 6 to 12 months in advance. Popular Saturdays in London and Surrey often fill up a year out.

When should we book wedding services?

As a general rule of thumb for the UK market:
Venue & Catering: 12–18 months.
Photography & Videography: 10–12 months.
DJ & Live Music: 6–9 months.
Photo Booths & Interactive Experiences: 6 months.

It is ever too late to book a wedding supplier?

It’s never too late to ask! We often handle last-minute bookings for corporate events or spontaneous wedding additions. If your date is just weeks away, get in touch immediately to see what’s available.

Can we gift a photo booth to someone?

Absolutely! It is one of the most popular group gifts we see. We can coordinate directly with the venue or wedding planner to keep the setup a surprise, ensuring a fabulous reveal for the couple on their big night.
